2021 Halliday Wine Companion

2018 Single Vineyard Coal River Valley Pinot Noir 30% Whole Bunch

A mix of clones, cold-soaked and fermented in open stainless steel, 10 months in older french barriques. Aromas of cherry and sweet spice but also more earthy characters like beetroot. Sweet-fruited by tangy on the palate, quite mouthfilling and with good length. Screwcap. 13% alc Rating: 93 To: 2025

2018 Single Vineyard Coal River Valley Pinot Noir 50% Whole Bunch

All clone 777, 50% whole bunch, cold-soaked, open fermented with wild yeast. Oak handling as with the 30% release. Rather pale and lacking clarity in the glass. Much stronger whole-bunch influence here: stemmy, green characters prevailing on the bouquet. Riper on the palate and again there’s sweetness to the fruit, the flavours softening towards the finish. 13% alc Rating: 91 To: 2025
